Dry, Hot Summer? Install An Automatic Spray Sprinkler System With A Timer

Posted on

If you have had a dry and hot summer this year, your lawn and your trees are likely not looking good. Your lawn may have fading or dead areas, and your trees may be losing a lot of leaves. Fortunately, you can install an automatic spray sprinkler system to get your lawn and trees healthy.  Below is some information about this type of sprinkler system so you can decide if you would like to purchase this for your home.

Install an Automatic Spray Sprinkler System

With this type of sprinkler system, spray heads are installed in the ground. When the water comes on, the spray heads pop up, and when the water turns off, the spray heads pop back down into the ground again.

You can adjust to spray in different ways. For example, you can set the system to spray a half circle, full circle, or a quarter circle.  Because your lawn and trees are having problems, a full circle would likely work out best as this will cover more ground.

You must purchase the entire system at the same time. This is because each spray head must be made by the same manufacturer. If not, the spray heads will not all spray the same so your yard may not get a full distribution of water.

Install a Timer

To prevent you from having to turn the sprinkler system off and on manually, you can install a programmable timer. You can set the timer to turn on at a certain time and turn off at a certain time. There are also timers that are smart enough to know how much water your lawn and trees need. For example, the timers can gauge how much rain you have gotten and what the temperature is outside.

Do not set the sprinkler system to run at night. If you do, you make your lawn and trees more susceptible to fungus and disease. It is best to run the sprinkler first thing in the morning right before the sun comes up. This way the water will soak into the ground before the sun has time to dry up the water.

Your system may come with a timer or you may have to purchase it separately.

It is beneficial to have an automatic spray sprinkler system and automatic timer installed by a professional. This is especially true if you have a large yard and will be installing more than one system. This will not only save you a lot of time but this will ensure the sprinkler system, as well as the timer, are installed correctly.
